Inspection is pretty straightforward, just open up your cartridge filter, take out the filter cartridge and visually inspect every inch for any signs of cracking or damage. If you do find any, take it to a service center so it can be fixed (this takes a long time to do) or replace it before the season starts. There’s really no special trick to getting your pool cartridge filter ready for the summer. Just give it a good hose down and soak it overnight in some specially formulated Zodiac Filter Cleaner to melt away all of the gunk and junk that have accumulated during the off season.

Simply apply the flocculant according to the instructions printed on the bottle, allow it to rest overnight to attract all of the microscopic particles that slip through your sand filter, vacuum it out and then backwash your sand filter!
