Make manual pool cleaning a thing of the past with suction pool cleaners. These are the most popular types of automatic pool cleaners due to their unbeatable value. Shop some of the most popular pool cleaners in Australia from brands like Water TechniX, Zodiac, Pentair, and more!
Suction pool cleaners are attached to your pool skimmer boxes via a specialized vacuum plate. These cleaners utilize the suction power of your pool’s filtration system, hence the name “Suction pool cleaners”.
Suction pool cleaners typically don’t have built-in debris collection bags like their pressure pool cleaner counterparts so it’s always a good idea to get a leaf canister with your suction pool cleaner to reduce the burden on your pool filter. It is also good practice to give your sand pool filter a backwash or your pool filter cartridge a good cleaning after cleaning your pool with a suction pool cleaner since all of the dirt cleaned out of the pool goes straight to your filters.
Troubleshooting Suction Pool Cleaners
Here are some common issues that you may come across when operating your suction pool cleaner:
- Erratic operation - If your suction pool cleaner stutters or starts and stops randomly, then this is probably an issue with your flow valve. Check it to see if something is stuck there or replace the flow valve if damaged.
- Not getting enough pressure - If your suction pool cleaner isn’t getting enough pressure, check its connection to the vacuum plates, check your pool cleaner hoses for leaks, clean out your skimmer and pump baskets, and check your filter’s pressure (it might need cleaning).
- Everything’s getting tangled up! - Use only enough hose segments to cover the entire length of the pool.

Note: Some suction pool cleaners require a minimum pump size to function properly, be sure to check out the individual listings themselves to see if your pump can provide enough suction for a specific model.
