Skimmer Boxes

True to its name, a pool skimmer box “skims” the top of your water of any floating debris. Once the debris enters the skimmer box, it gets deposited into the skimmer basket for easier cleaning in removal at a later time. 

Skimmer boxes also ensure that your pump gets a constant supply of water by providing a well where water can pool in before being sucked into the intake lines. Skimmer boxes also serve as the access point where you can attach your vacuum plates to create an air-tight seal and create enough pressure to power your automatic pool cleaners or to give you enough suction for manual pool cleaning. 

Skimmer Box Maintenance

Skimmer boxes routinely need to be cleaned once a week. Cleaning them is simple, simply take out the deck lid, take out the skimmer basket and tap out (and maybe give it a little hose down) all of the trapped floating debris. Cleaning the skimmer baskets is not only good for your skimmer box, but it also ensures maximum water flow to your pump and relieves the pressure on it as well. 

Tip: When you empty out the skimmer baskets, since you’re already there, don’t forget to check out your weir doors for any damage as well.
